Objective
A research and development position in physical and geometric optics, where design plays an integral element to improve or invent novel processes and optical devices. My research interests include spectroscopy, interferometry, lens design, electro-optics, optical computing, and image processing.
Education
University of Southern California
MSEE with Emphasis on Optics
Expected Graduation in May 2007
University of California at Santa Cruz
BSEE with Emphasis on Optics and Communications
Received Highest Honors in the Major (Ranked 1st in graduating class)
Relevant Work Experience
Microchip Biotechnologies, Inc.
Fremont, CA
Independent Consultant
06/2005 – 08/2005
- Worked with leading scientists in the biotech industry on federally funded projects for DNA sequencing and bio-terror defense systems using micro-fluidics and optics
- Developed hardware and software solutions for improving existing processes such as implementing a computer-controlled solenoid to open and close the shutter on a fluorescence microscope that was previously operated manually
- Used LabView extensively for instrument control, including an analog voltage controller and modifications to an existing controller for a CCD-based fluorescence detector, which made data analysis easier.
- Improved IT infrastructure including CMS-based website
